Ping’an Steel Introduces Wodon CNC Hardfacing Equipment to Boost Efficiency and Reduce Costs

Recently, to accelerate its digital transformation, Ping’an Steel introduced two CNC hardfacing machines from Wodon for workpiece production and roller surface repair. These machines have enabled in-house hardfacing operations, significantly improving production efficiency while reducing procurement and maintenance costs.

At the Metalworking Station of Ping’an Steel’s Maintenance Department, Wodon’s single-torch CNC hardfacing equipment and gantry-style dual-torch hardfacing machine are running efficiently. These devices feature a high level of automation, user-friendly operation, and stable, reliable welding quality.

For the equipment implementation, Wodon’s technical team provided full support on-site—from delivery to commissioning—and remained stationed at the factory to offer real-time solutions for technical issues encountered during production. They trained local operators on essential skills such as equipment programming, hardfacing wire selection, and dynamic parameter adjustment, ensuring quick mastery of the automated hardfacing process.

A Ping’an Steel operator commented:
"During the initial installation phase, we followed the setup closely and learned programming from Wodon's engineers. We quickly grasped the structure and usage of the new equipment."

During early stages of use, Wodon’s team worked closely with Ping’an Steel operators to fine-tune equipment parameters. With a professional and persistent attitude, they ensured that the equipment was fully adapted to the specific production environment of the Metalworking Station, eventually reaching optimal performance.

Previously, Ping’an Steel had to outsource critical components such as sintering machine grate plates and bimetallic wear-resistant plates. Surface hardfacing of sintering rollers was also dependent on external vendors. With the introduction of the two CNC hardfacing machines, these grate plates and bimetallic wear plates are now produced in-house. Meanwhile, hardfacing repairs for the ironmaking sintering crushers (quad rollers and double rollers) can also be completed internally.

An operator shared:
“Jobs like these require high wear resistance and advanced hardfacing skills. The parts are expensive—one sintering grate plate used to cost over RMB 20,000 when purchased. Now, we just buy raw material and use a flame cutter and hardfacing machine to make it ourselves. Excluding equipment depreciation, the cost per piece is only about RMB 10,000—cutting expenses in half!”

The single-torch CNC hardfacing equipment provided by Wodon features an advanced control system that automatically completes the hardfacing process according to preset programs. By changing the welding wire and adjusting parameters, it can adapt to various materials and workpiece shapes. The gantry-style dual-torch machine is equipped with intelligent tracking and positioning functions to ensure precise welding.

Ping’an Steel stated that producing sintering grate plates and bimetallic wear plates in-house is expected to reduce annual procurement costs by approximately RMB 328,300. In-house hardfacing of ironmaking sintering crusher rollers is projected to save about RMB 175,000 annually in processing fees. Based on current projections, the cost of the equipment can be recovered within one year.

By providing CNC hardfacing equipment and technical support to Ping’an Steel, Wodon once again demonstrates its deep expertise in wear-resistant welding technology. Through innovation and service, Wodon empowers industrial customers to achieve digital transformation and sustainable cost reduction.
